Zone 6 egg farmers from Perth and Waterloo counties served up more than 1,000 devilled eggs last week during Stratford’s annual Rotary Rural-Urban banquet.

The husband-and-wife team of Sally and Mike Van Straaten, who run an egg farm in Ellice Township just outside Stratford, had attendees smiling as they enjoyed the homemade treat.

The young farmers volunteered at the annual Rural-Urban night, hosted by the Rotary Club of Stratford. The event brings together members of the rural and urban communities for an evening of food, fellowship and conversation. Local farmers and restaurants donate food for the banquet each year.

Offerings included beef, pork, chutney, salads, devilled eggs, cake, desserts, squares and coffee, all generously provided by Perth County farmers and local eateries.

During the evening, food suppliers were thanked for their contributions to the Rotary Club’s efforts, both locally and internationally.
