School Bus Driver Charged

On Thursday, November 2, 2023 shortly after 8:30 a.m. the Stratford Police Service received a report of a school bus that had driven off the roadway and struck a tree.

Police attended along with Perth County Paramedics and Stratford Fire.

The school bus had been travelling south on John Street South approaching Dingman Place, in the City of Stratford, when it suddenly left the roadway and struck a tree. Extensive damage was caused to the front of the bus and the tree was completely knocked down.

At the time of the collision 11 students of elementary school age were on the bus. All students were treated at the scene by paramedics with one student being taken to hospital for neck pain. The driver of the bus suffered minor injuries and was transported to hospital by paramedics.

John Street South was closed for several hours to allow for police to complete the investigation and for the area to be cleaned up.

As a result of the investigation the driver of the bus has been charged with Careless Driving as police were unable to determine a reasonable excuse for the driver to leave the roadway.
